AN OLYMPIC star said that his medal is already looking worse-for-wear just one week after winning it.

Skateboarder Nyjah Huston won bronze for the USA in the Men's Street event at the Paris Olympics on July 29 but a clip on August 8 revealed its shabby condition.

Hutson, 29, has since returned to America and is staying in Laguna Beach, California.

The skateboarder had been enjoying his break with friends and soaking up the sun as well as showing off his new medal.

However, the medal is no longer looking as clean as it was when first awarded to him.

In an Instagram video he shared, the coveted medal could be seen looking battered and peeling.

Hutson insisted that the quality of the metal may not be as "high" as he initially thought and called for it to be improved.

He said, "Alright, so the medals look great when they are brand new.

"But they look worse after I let them sit on my skin with some sweat for a little while and let my friends wear them over the weekend.

"They are apparently not as high quality as you would think.

"I mean look at that thing, it is looking rough.

"Even the front is starting to chip off a little so I think the Olympic medals need to step up the quality a little bit."

Fans try to match the athlete to their sport in this Olympics challenge!

In a separate post, he added: "Medal looking like it went to war and back.

"I guess the medals are meant to be in cases. Not meant for the send."

Fans were in agreement with Hutson as they reacted to the video on social media.

One posted: "Looks like you won that thing in 1982."

A second wrote: "What a piece of trash from the Olympics."

A third commented: "What quality huh?"

A fourth said: "Did you keep the receipt?"

Another added: "The gold one is fine. Try that next time."

Given that the medals are made from iron from the original Eiffel Tower, it's no surprise Hutson felt his metal prize was a bit lacklustre.

Olympics 2024 medals feature a hexagon-shaped piece of iron taken from the lattice tower built in the 1880s in their centre to honour the host city.

They also features a six-edged metal medallion set like a gemstone under a design by elite French jewellery house Chaumet.

The design includes a circular arrangement of ridges intended to catch the light and evoke the sun's rays.

The hexagon - a shape which echoes the contours of mainland France - is held in place by six spurs on each corner, intended to resemble the rivets used on the Eiffel Tower.

The Paris Mint made more than a staggering 5,000 medals in total for the sporting event with 2,600 designated for the Olympics and 2,400 for the Paralympics.
