  • Match Report by Dan King

Manuel Akanji earned Manchester City Wembley revenge on neighbours United.

The Swiss defender, who failed to convert his penalty in a Euro 2024 shootout against England, made no mistake after United veteran Jonny Evans had sent his kick over the bar.

It was harsh on United, who were set to follow up their FA Cup Final win with another deserved victory over their rivals.

Alejandro Garnacho seemed to have won the game in normal time for the men in red.

After scoring the second goal in the cup final, the Argentinian broke the deadlock with eight minutes left.

But after being second best for an hour, City roused themselves to force a penalty shootout and substitute Bernardo Silva headed an 89th-minute equaliser.

This is how the Manchester United players were rated at full-time after losing out to Manchester City on penalties.

It was a fine performance by Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho, but the owners will be worried by the amount of money they spent on Mason Mount...

Here is a look at the full time match stats.

A fairly even game which deservedly ended in a draw, was ultimately decided by the more clinical team in the shoot-out.

  • Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans fail to convert

After a bright start to the shootout for Man Utd in which Bernardo Silva's penalty was saved by Andre Onana, it all went downhill from there.

Jadon Sancho was the first to step up and fail to score, after his penalty was saved by Ederson, just onto the post.

As for Jonny Evans, he never even looked like scoring - with a timid run up where he leant back and lofted the ball over the crossbar.

It's a huge shame for Man United, who were probably the better team on the day.

  • Manchester City WIN the Community Shield!

Fourth time lucky, they have won it at last!

After Jonny Evans missed from the spot, it was Manuel Akanji who stepped up and smashed his penalty straight down the middle and into the back of the net.
