MLB star Dansby Swanson paid an emotional tribute to his wife Mallory after she secured women's soccer gold for Team USA in Paris.

The Chicago Cubs shortstop was not able to be at the Paris Olympics to support his wife.

But he cheered on from afar as Mallory scored the decisive goal against Brazil in the 57th minute of the gold medal game.

The golden goal coincided with her 100th appearance for the national team. 

"God is so good. Always and forever. You are such an inspiration to so many, but more to me than anyone can ever fathom," Swanson wrote on Instagram.

"Your faith in God’s plan, gratitude in life, the grace and joy in which you live and play, the perseverance to fight through whatever obstacles thrown your way.

"You are truly a gift from above, and you shine with that every day.

"I’m speechless. And now you’re a gold medal, Olympic champion, and 100 caps in the same day.

"And that can never be taken from you. I love you forever."

Swanson revealed he watched the game from his basement by himself.

“A lot of stress, but a lot of joy and excitement,” Swanson told reporters.

“It was definitely a memory and a moment that I’ll never forget.

"So thankful for her parents being able to be there, her best friends, all the people in her tight circle being able to be there.

“And just the support of people that have reached out is just a testament to just how amazing of a woman she is.

"And what an incredible, incredible accomplishment it’s been.”

Swanson said he thought about taking leave from the Cubs to go to Paris – but Mallory nixed the idea.

“She told me not to,” the baseball star said.

“So, I listened. Obviously, I have a duty and responsibility here as well.

"Doing my best to stay connected with her and everything that’s been going on.”

Swanson said he briefly spoke to Mallory after the game.

“She called me after when she had like 2 seconds to just say hi,” he said.

“But I just wanted her to go enjoy it, not worry about me, go enjoy this incredible moment and just soak it all in.”
