PATRICK Mahomes shared a heartwarming picture of himself relaxing with his kids after playing in his first pre-season game of the new campaign.

The Kansas City Chiefs superstar, 28, featured as his team lost 26-13 to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday.

Then, on Sunday, Mahomes chilled out on the couch with his kids.

In a snap initially posted by the quarterback's wife, Brittany, the three-time Super Bowl MVP could be seen smiling as he hugged his kids.

Mahomes and childhood sweetheart Brittany have two children together: daughter Sterling Skye, three, and son Bronze, one.

With their dad grinning, Sterling Skye and Bronze could be seen clutching biscuits.

Brittany adorably captioned the picture: "Off day Oreos and snuggles."

And Mahomes swiftly reposted it to his 6.7million Instagram followers.

Despite surprisingly featuring, the Chiefs star was not particularly busy during Saturday's game.

Coach Andy Reid opted to play him and Travis Kelce in just one drive.

Mahomes dutifully led his offense to a field goal in the first team's only series of play.

But during the rest of the game, with Mahomes sitting, Kansas City was outscored by 16.

During his cameo, Mahomes completed 3-of-4 passes for 85 yards.

Despite his team's loss, Reid, 66, had positives to take out of the exercise.

He said: "I like what I've seen.

"There were some good things, and there were some things that we need to work on.

"The obvious [thing] is we'll clean up the special teams [mistakes]… I thought the offense did some nice things.

"There are things to work on, but there were also some positive things as well."

Many would have expected Mahomes not to play on Saturday, as star quarterbacks rarely play in early pre-season games.

But Reid made the call to play his main men for a quarter.

Ahead of the game, Mahomes said: "It's cool, I like playing in the preseason, honestly. Make sure we're doing stuff in the right way and getting out keeping everybody healthy and playing the sport that I love.

"Hopefully, we can go out there and play a good football game. I always want to get hit, but not hit hard. A little nudge, that's all I need."
