In a corresponding roster move, the 49ers waived injured wide receiver Frank Darby.

San Francisco added Chosen as Aiyuk continues to hold in at training camp as he seeks a long-term contract.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters about his thoughts on Chosen.

"I’ve always been a fan of him, his whole career," Shanahan said on Monday, per NBC Sports. "Especially going back to the Jets. Just the speed he’s had, the way he plays for a guy who can run so fast.

"I always thought he played physical, ran his routes very well. When you’re a very good go runner, streak runner but also can run a slant, it’s a problem.

"Love that he has some experience in our offense, with just being with Miami last year.

"We got him in on a workout last week and he looked like what we’ve seen from Chosen in the past.

"We’re excited to get him on board at this time.”

Chosen appeared in nine games with the Miami Dolphins last season, registering just four receptions for 126 yards and one touchdown.

He brings with him 86 career games, though, and has been productive in the past.

The 31-year-old Chosen entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2016.

He posted three seasons of 50-plus catches in four years in New York.

Chosen signed a two-year deal with the Carolina Panthers in 2020 - the year he had his best season.

The Temple product recorded 95 receptions for 1,096 yards and three touchdowns in that campaign.

In 2021, he re-signed with the Panthers on a two-year deal worth $29 million.

However, Chosen has struggled since then as he registered 519 yards in 17 games in 2021.

Carolina traded him to the Arizona Cardinals the following season.

Chosen has totaled 408 yards in 25 games from 2022-23.
