The 29-year-old is now expected to be out of action until after the international break next month.

That means he will miss fixtures against Fulham, Brighton and Liverpool.

An injury update from the Red Devils on Tuesday read: "Luke Shaw will miss the opening games of the Premier League season due to a calf injury sustained at the start of pre-season training.

"He is working hard on his rehabilitation with a view to being available after the first international break."

Fellow left-back Tyrell Malacia is also out injured.
