A FOOTBALL fan’s bizarre antics left other supporters wondering if he’d turned up “at the cricket” instead.

The strange moment occurred in last night’s Carabao Cup clash between Championship duo Preston and Sunderland.

The latter were on the receiving end of a 2-0 defeat away from home.

Goals from Ryan Ledson and Mads Frokjaer-Jensen secured all three points for Preston.

But the result appeared to be too much to take for one Sunderland fan.

Footage posted online showed the man by himself in the away stands.

Instead of watching the match, he began gesturing to Preston fans with a series of bizarre movements — including what appeared to be swinging a cricket bat.

Baffled supporters could not make heads or tails of what message the Black Cat was trying to get across.

And internet sleuths at home were also left equally confused.

One person hilariously deduced that the Sunderland supporter had mistakenly turned up to the game thinking it was a cricket match instead.

They said: “Thinks he’s at the cricket by the looks of it.”

Another declared: “Can he play up front?”

Another added: “Golf I thought.”

The Sunderland fan can at least take solace in his side’s Championship season opener, a 2-0 win over Cardiff.

Sunderland finished 16th last season and will be hoping to push closer for a playoff place this term.

As for Preston, they finished 10th last term but began the new league term with a 2-0 loss to Sheffield United, with manager Ryan Lowe sensationally quitting this week.
