Ipswich say Sheeran will have long-term use of a Portman Road executive box.

But the singer will not join the club’s board as his investment is only “passive and minority”.

Sheeran, 33, who has been Town’s main shirt sponsor since 2021, has also designed the club’s Suffolk-inspired third kit.

He said: “It’s any football fan’s dream to be an owner of the club they support, and I feel so grateful for this opportunity.

“I have lived in Suffolk since I was three and, while I travel the world, Ipswich have always made me feel part of the community.

“It’s such a joy to be a fan. I’m not a voting shareholder or a board member, this is just me putting some money into the club I love so please don’t get onto me with signing suggestions or tactics.”

Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton added: “The support Ed and his team have shown us over the last three years has been nothing short of remarkable.”

Ipswich begin their Prem campaign at home to Liverpool on Saturday.
