All four of Ed's sons have played football to a very high level, with running back Christian currently with the San Francisco 49ers.

Now, his youngest son, Luke, wants a piece of the action.

After playing for Rice University, the 23-year-old was selected by the Commanders in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

And how he's had a taste of the action, playing against the New York Jets.

Posting on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, Ed expressed his delight at the special moment while posting a clip of Luke in action.

"Congrats Luke on playing in your first @NFLFootball Game. Proud of you!" he said.

"Loved meeting your @Commanders teammates & their families after the game as well."

Luke certainly hails from impressive stock, with father Ed regarded as one of the best blocking wide receivers ever.

He was part of the 49ers team that won the 1995 Super Bowl.

McCaffrey was also a second-team All-Pro selection in 1998.

For his part, Luke says he feels no pressure despite having a famous brother, Christian, in the NFL.

"I love this game and I have so much fun doing it," he said.

"You're competitive within the play and within the snap, and you hope that it goes well every single time.
