THE Chicago Cubs are one of the hottest teams in baseball, and they credit a certain superstar for their success.

According to manager Craig Counsell, Taylor Swift is the reason for the Cubs' 7-2 run.

Before their spectacular run, the Cubs sat at 61-64, well out of a National League Wild Card spot.

Now, the Cubs are 68-66 and only 5.5 games out of the Wild Card with 29 games left to play.

During their run, the Cubs have produced some spectacular wins including a 10-2 win over the Tigers, and 14-2 win over the Marlins, and 18-8 and 14-10 wins over the Pirates.

Everything is going right for the Cubs, and Counsell is giving the credit to Swift in the clubhouse.

"I think we have to start with Taylor Swift... there are a lot of Swifties in Cubs nation and there might be some luck coming from those Swifties that's impacted the Cubs," Counsell said.

He revealed that he was gifted a Taylor Swift-themed item, and ever since the Cubs have performed well.

"I was gifted a Taylor Swift candle and we've been lighting that before games in my office with clubhouse manager Danny Miller," Counsell said.

"We've found a nice little run here so gonna credit Taylor Swift."

The Cubs have three games against the Nationals and Pirates coming up before having to face a tough stretch against the Yankees and Dodgers.

To make their way into a Wild Card Spot, they will have to vault over the Mets and Braves in the next month.

However, as long as the Taylor Swift candle is burning, Cubs fans feel they have a shot at making the playoffs.

"It's only crazy if it doesn't work. This is prime baseball science," one fan said.

"If the Cubs make the playoffs, I'll listen to every one of her songs from her 1st album to her last," another fan said.

"We have no choice but to stan Taylor Swift now," a third fan said.

Baseball is a strange sport and often times teams will credit some sort of idols for their special runs during the season.

Earlier in the year, the Mets credited McDonald's mascot Grimace for a spectacular run that got them back in the playoff race.

Perhaps Taylor Swift will be the one to get the Cubs back into contention in 2024.

As things currently stand, the three National League Wild Card spots are occupied by the Diamondbacks, Padres and Braves.

The Mets and Cubs are the next closest teams to taking a playoff spot, but will both need to go on hot streaks to close out the season to have a chance.
