The 52-year-old former England ace once played for Italian side Lazio and still has a huge fan base across the country.

Producers on the show have held preliminary talks with the star’s representatives about getting him onboard.

They have badgered him to sign up before, but now are confident they can finally get their man.

Gazza thinks the job overseas could be the perfect way to re-enter public life.

A pal told The Sun: "It's early days but Gazza appreciates the offers. The Strictly show in Italy is attractive because he's be back in the public domain each week, albeit on Italian TV.

"They'll be media interest in the UK of course, but the spotlight won't be quite so bright. Watch this space, it's very likely."

Last month, Gazza was cleared of sexual assault after kissing a woman on a train for a confidence boost when she was called a "fat lass".

'VERY LIKELY'

He was accused of grabbing the woman "very forcibly on the lips" before putting his tongue into her mouth as they travelled on a train.

He claimed he was trying to give the woman a "confidence boost" after she was branded a "fat lass" on the service from York to Durham on August 20 last year.

Jurors had been told he "lied, lied and lied" from the beginning - with the ex-Spurs legend breaking down in tears in court as he denied the kiss was sexual.

The star said afterwards: "Thank you, Your Honour, thank you to the jury...and thank you to my dentist.”

He insisted: “I get kissed all the time. If that’s the case I’ve been sexually harassed for the last 20 years.”

The star has been linked previously to appearances on Strictly Come Dancing and other hit TV shows.

He said of a possible guest role in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!: “They asked a while back but I wasn’t right and said no.

“When sober, I’m up for anything, but when drinking I don’t want to do anything.” Gazza has battled his booze demons in rehab.

He earned 57 caps for England during his international career and was branded one of the greatest players of his generation.

He famously broke down in tears at the 1990 World Cup after receiving a yellow card in the semi-final with West Germany - meaning he would not play if England reached the final.
