Who was Andy Goram and how did he die?

LEGENDARY Scotland and Rangers goalkeeper Andy Goram died in 2022 after a short battle with cancer.

But what cancer did he have, and did he have any children?

Who was Andy Goram?

Andy Goram was a club legend for Scottish side Rangers, and made 260 appearances for the Glasgow team from 1991 to 1998.

The 58-year-old helped them win five Scottish Premier League Titles, as well as three Scottish Cups, and two League cups.

He was also capped for his country both for football and cricket, and remains the only Scot to have played both sports at the top level.

International football fans will remember him as part of the Scotland squad that appeared in the 1986 and 1990 World Cups and Euro 92 and 96.

What cancer did Andy have?

Andy announced that he'd been diagnosed with Level 4 oesophageal cancer at the end of May, 2022.

A specialist predicted the footballing hero had about six months to live – and nine if he underwent chemotherapy.

However, Andy quickly dismissed the treatment option after witnessing how ill it made his ex-wife Miriam, who battled cancer in 2021.

He told the Daily Record: “I’ve been told by the doc, ‘Go enjoy your everyday life and be as normal as possible.

“My pain is manageable. I can still go see friends and still be myself.

“I’ll be here as long as I possibly can.

“The only difference is the timebomb is ticking away.”

How did he die?

Rangers issued a statement on July 2, 2022, announcing that the Ibrox hero had died.

It said: "Rangers Football Club are today deeply saddened to announce the death of our legendary goalkeeper, Andy Goram, following a short battle with cancer.

"The thoughts of the directors, management, players and staff are today with Andy’s family, and would ask that their privacy is respected at this sad time.

"Funeral details will be communicated in due course."

Was Andy married and did he have children?

Andy was married three times first to Jackie Taylor, Tracey Fitzpatrick then Miriam Wylie.

His last marriage to pub landlady Miriam in 2001, ended in separation after three years.

But the pair remained close, and supported each other through their respective cancer battles.

Andy had a son, Danny with first wife Jackie, and another son, Lewis, with second wife Tracey.
