COUNTER-OFFER

Edge confirms he held talks with rival promotion AEW before WWE return to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania 36

WWE legend Edge has revealed he rejected an offer from All Elite Wrestling before making a shock return at the Royal Rumble.

The 46-year-old, real name Adam Copeland, was forced to retire in 2011 due to a neck injury but stunned the world in January with a comeback.

The Hall of Famer is now preparing for his first singles match in nearly a decade tonight as he battles Randy Orton at WrestleMania 36.

However, speaking about his situation on the WWE 24 special, Edge revealed he held talks with a rival company before thrashing out a multi-year contract with WWE boss Vince McMahon.

He said: “So, some discussions were had. The one thing that I told them through all of this is, ‘When you give me your offer, I need to go talk to Vince [McMahon]. He’s done right by me my entire career.’

“He gave me my chance. He gave me my shot. Trusted me to be able to pull off a lot of things. To be able to help pull the cart. To be a pillar for his shows. To be counted on as one of his generals. That goes a long way with me.”

Despite being offered a package with AEW, the star insists he was not trying to up the ante by telling McMahon and WWE.

Edge added: “It wasn’t trying to get a bidding war thing going. It wasn’t any of that.

“WWE didn’t even know whether this was possible. I didn’t fully know it was possible. And [Vince] said, ‘Well, this needs to happen here.’”
