WWE’s most bizarre gimmick matches after John Cena’s trip to the FireFly Funhouse and Undertaker’s Boneyard bout

WWE made history as they produced the 36th edition of WrestleMania in a two-part spectacular earlier this year.

And two of the best moments from the event occurred in the wackiest of circumstances.

The legendary Undertaker defeated AJ Styles in a Boneyard Match that was more akin to a Hollywood movie.

And John Cena’s unsuccessful trip to “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt’s Firefly Fun House was arguably the craziest segment ever seen in WWE.

Both proved to be huge hits with fans - but not every gimmicked match has proven to be as successful.

But it does not stop there.

On July 19, Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio will battle it out in an "Eye for an Eye" match - which means a person loses if their eyes is pulled out.

Ahead of that showdown, we have taken a look at the weirdest bouts that have taken place inside the squared-circle:

KENNEL FROM HELL

When it comes to bad gimmick matches, then there cannot be many worse conceptions than this.

It took place on the 1999 Unforgiven pay-per-view with the legendary Big Boss Man and Al Snow battling it out inside a steel cage - but the bout came with a twist.

A further steel cell was attached to the cage, with the gap inbetween that and the door filled with guard dogs who were supposed to prevent the wrestlers from taking the usual route out.

But the hounds turned out to be more like puppies as the biggest obstacle Boss Man and Snow had on trying to escape was avoiding the dog mess left by the laid-back dogs.

CHAMBERS OF HORRORS MATCH

What an awful match, courtesy of WCW at Halloween Havoc in 1991.

El Gigante, Sting and the Steiner Brothers took on Abdullah the Butcher, Cactus Jack, Vader and Diamond Studd in this comedy showdown.

They decided it would be “fun” to have a cage surrounding the ring with it decorated in skulls and graves with an “electric chair” in the middle.

The aim was for each participant to try and get another member of the opposition into the chair and push a lever to shock them and claim the win.

It was Hall of Famer Sting's team that triumphed as Abdullah was strapped to the chair and Cactus Jack accidentally “electrocuted” his team mate.

HARDCORE EVENING GOWN MATCH

Horrendous - there is simply no better way to describe this monstrosity.

One of the most popular championships back in the Attitude Era was the now defunct Hardcore Title.

It proved to be a highly-entertaining addition to WWE, except for this particular occasion.

Vince McMahon’s stooges Gerlad Brisco and Pat Patterson were both well retired when the two middle-aged veterans decided to try and win the belt.

Patterson had dressed in drag and won the title before making a dash to the women’s locker room to prevent Brisco from chasing him.

But his foe followed suit by donning female clothing and following him in.

After seeing his veteran henchman making idiots of themselves, McMahon ordered them to settle their differences in a Hardcore Evening Gown Match at King of the Ring.

It was well-and-truly awful with a number of tasteless spots, including Patterson using a sanitary towel as a weapon.

Luckily, Crash Holly ruined their fun by entering the fray to take back the strap.

DOG POO MATCH

WWE’s Attitude Era threw up hundreds of memorable moments, but this clash certainly lived up to its name.

It was English wrestling legend British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith who ended up involved in this one along with the iconic Rock.

Following his return to WWE from WCW, he embarked one a feud with the Great One that resulted in the late Bulldog being challenged to a “dog poo” match on Raw. Rock’s partner Mankind, aka Mick Foley, brought down a tray full of dog muck to the ring, with the loser getting slammed into it.

Unfortunately for Bulldog, it was he who had to suffer the humiliation in this ridiculous encounter.

ARKANSAS HOG PEN MATCH

Triple H is now one of the main men in WWE and is married to CEO Vince McMahon’s daughter Stephanie.

But even The Game has had to take part in his fair share of embarrassing incidents, including this forgettable encounter.

It took place at In Your House in December 1995 and occurred when HHH was still playing his rich snob gimmick.

He took on Henry O’Godwinn in a clash that ended when you threw your opponent into a hog pen that was set up near the ring and was full of filth and mud.
