DREW WHAT?

WWE refuse to name Drew Gulak in social media post calling him Daniel Bryan’s training partner after his release

WWE have once again left fans angered and confused after omitting a superstar’s name.

Earlier this month Roman Reigns was bizarrely edited out of WrestleMania footage in a preview to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

Now Drew Gulak has simply been referred to as a “training partner” in a clip shared on Twitter of him battling mentor Daniel Bryan on last week’s SmackDown.

The tweet comes after the 33-year-old American left WWE after failing to agree terms on a new deal.

His contract expired just days after the former NXT Cruiserweight Title holder battled the Leader of the Yes Movement in the tournament to crown a new Intercontinental Champion.

Last month WWE announced a host of releases due to the financial impact of the coronavirus.

Kurt Angle was among those casualties, with Gulak’s name also believed to be among them.

However, he has continued to be shown on WWE programming since then leading to him taking part in one of the best matches since they began taking place behind-closed-doors due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

And fans were less than impressed as they responded to the social message.

One blasted: “The training partner has a name.”

Another said: “The 'training partner' you asked to work during a global pandemic. Whether he left or not, at least give him the respect of saying his name.”

While a fellow supporter wrote: “This is beyond disrespectful to @DrewGulak, he deserves way better than to be described as Daniel Bryan's "training partner". Put some respect on that man's name…”

It remains to be seen what happens next for Gulak, who tapped out to Bryan in the showdown, with some reports claiming rival promotion AEW are keen to sign him.

However, due to the nature of his departure and his recent push, there is still a possibility he may eventually agree a new deal with WWE.

Which just makes the decision to omit his name from the tweet even more baffling.
