Who is Jack Michaels?

Born on January 23, 1974, Jack Michaels is an American hockey announcer from Meadville, Pennsylvania.

Michaels is widely known as the announcer for the Edmonton Oilers.

Following his graduation from Ithaca College, he landed his first job as a sportscaster at WMGW.

In 1999, he turned his professional attention to covering ice hockey full-time and became the announcer for the Colorado Gold Kings.

In 2002, he relocated to Alaska and became the media relations director for the Anchorage Aces.

Between 2004 and 2010, Michaels was a regular ECHL announcer for the league's all-star games.

When did Michaels become the Edmonton Oilers announcer?

On August 24, 2010, the NHL recruited Michaels to start announcing for the Edmonton Oilers.

At the time, the league recruited him to replace the newly-retired Rod Phillips.

Regarding the opportunity, Michaels told Anchorage Daily News: "You don't replace a guy like that.

"You just come in, do your thing and, hopefully, they come to appreciate you.

"It's a chance of a lifetime, let's be honest. There's no question about it...this is what 15 years of work is for, getting to this point, getting to the NHL.

"An NHL play-by-play job has been a dream and believe me this is now a dream come true.

"I know fans have keenly listened to Oilers broadcasts for three decades of fabulous moments and frankly, I can’t wait to get started."

Who is Michaels married to?

On May 26, 2002, Michaels married teacher Emily Moutsos and held their ceremony in Colorado Springs.

The sportscaster met Emily while they were classmates at Meadville Area Senior High School.

The couple share two children; a daughter named Callie and a son named Tyler.

The family of four resides in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
