LaMelo Ball injury update with Charlotte Hornets star set for lengthy spell out with ankle problem

The former first-round pick fractured the same ankle last season.

AN injury update has been revealed on NBA superstar LaMelo Ball.

The 22-year-old Charlotte Hornets point guard will be out for a lengthy amount of time after suffering a right ankle sprain against the Orlando Magic on Sunday.

In the second quarter, Ball landed hard on his right ankle during a layup attempt.

He was helped off the court after staying on the court for a brief amount of time.

The Hornets downgraded Ball from doubtful to out ahead of the team's In-Season Tournament game against the New York Knicks.

Ball is expected to miss multiple weeks with a right ankle sprain, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The former No. 3 overall pick fractured the same ankle which limited him to just 33 games played.

Ball had surgery in March to repair the fracture.

The 2022 Rookie of the Year was off to a stellar start in the 2023-24 season.

In 15 games, Ball averaged 24.7 points, 5.5. rebounds, and 8.2 assists.

And the NBA All-star also shot 44.3 percent from the floor along with a 38.8 percent from behind the three-point line.

The Hornets will have to turn to point guard Terry Rozier to hold down the fort.

He returned to play for the first time in three weeks on Sunday after being sidelined due to a groin injury.

Rozier had 22 points and nine assists in 37 minutes against the Magic.

Charlotte was blown out by the Knicks in Ball's first missed game, losing 115-91.

Knicks star Julius Randle led the way with 25 points and an astounding 20 rebounds.

The Hornets are 5-11 for the season and are 12th in the Eastern Conference.
