Andy Ruiz Jr was too busy ‘throwing parties’ to train for Joshua claims dad as Malignaggi slams ‘fat tub of s***’
ANDY RUIZ JR'S dad has claimed the defeated world champion was too busy "throwing parties" to train - while former world champion Paulie Malignaggi has labelled the roly-poly Mexican a "fat tub of s***".
Anthony Joshua totally out-classed Ruiz in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night, winning back his WBA, IBF and WBO titles in a convincing points victory.
The Mexican looked totally out of condition as 30-year-old Brit Joshua out-boxed him in Riyadh.
And Ruiz Jr’s father has blasted his son for coming into the fight overweight.
He admitted his son did not listen to either him or his trainer - and Ruiz Sr believes that the poor preparation played a major part.
Ruiz Jr, 30, ballooned up to 20st 3lbs (283lbs), 15lbs heavier than the first fight with Joshua back in June, when he beat the Brit in seven stunning rounds.
Ruiz Sr said that he told his son “months ago” that he was not going to be good at the weight and revealed that he was not training correctly.
He said Ruiz Jr was getting carried away with buying cars and “throwing parties.”
Ruiz Sr told Boxing Social: “Andy thought he was going to do good at the weight in the fight. I told him a month ago that ‘you’re not going to do good at the weight'.
“'It’s going to be too hard, because you’re going to be tired, and you’re not going to have the movement'. He came overweight, that was the problem.
"It was too much weight for his body. He weighed 283. Plus after he eats, he was almost 290-something.
"There was no way he was going to do something good, so now he’s learned his lesson and now he’s going to come back.
"All the fights that he’s done in his career, he was 255, 257, 246. The last time he fought, he was at 268, and he felt comfortable, but I told him, 'You have to lose weight', but at that time, we didn’t have enough time to lose weight.
"That’s why he fought at that weight."
Ruiz Sr said his son defied him and his camp because he was partying and too busy buying cars with the millions he made from his win over Joshua.
He said: “He was not listening because of the fame. He was with a Rolls-Royce, he was with his friends, he was throwing parties, and not listening to the camp.
"He was running by himself. We were in a house in Manhattan Beach, that week he could come with us, and stay in the house.
"He didn’t want to stay with us. He wanted to stay with his friend, and try to run by himself. It was the worst camp that he could be doing.
"I don’t think nothing about AJ. He’s a good boxer, and a great person. We love AJ, and he deserved this night to win.
"But Andy, he didn’t do the right things, that’s what happened."
Meanwhile, former IBF light-welterweight champ-turned-pundit Malignaggi has claimed Ruiz missed a great opportunity to beat AJ for a second time - by not training properly.
He told FightHubTV: "Part of the reason he was flustered wasn't just because of Joshua's movement.
"It was also because he came in like a fat tub of s*** and he ruined his chances of closing the gap the right way.
"Do you wanna be great or do you wanna just eat?
"You have to give credit to AJ — their game plan was smart...the game plan was the right game plan.
"But the confidence missing (in Joshua) was almost forgivable because he was knocked out six months ago by this guy.
"So he was slanting more towards safety first than slanting more towards winning and trying to execute in a manner where he looks good.

"I think it was more of a win here, look good the next time. And it's almost forgivable because you have to give him credit for going after a rematch right away.
"And you also have to keep in mind — for everybody criticising this guy right now — how many of you picked him to lose the rematch? You know you're out there.
"A lot of you picked him to lose the rematch so you can't now say that "oh he won but I don't think he did this good, I don't think he did that good" — no, he won! He already proved you wrong just by winning."
Joshua's promotor Eddie Hearn is now believed to be trying to negotiate a meeting with either Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury in 2020.
