Tyson Fury’s switch to Javan ‘Sugar’ Hill will make him even better, says British boxing legend Lennox Lewis

LENNOX LEWIS is sure Tyson Fury’s shock switch to trainer Javan ‘Sugar’ Hill will make the Gypsy King an even better fighter.

The 31-year-old stunned the sport last week when he dropped Ben Davison, the man he credited with saving his life when he was a suicidal 28st addict.

Fury has linked up with Hill, the nephew of legendary Kronk gym icon Emanuel Steward.

And Brit heavyweight legend Lewis, who joined Steward in 1994 and stayed with him until retiring in 2003, says it could be the maverick’s latest masterstroke.

Speaking to SunSport to mark the 20th anniversary of his Sports Personality of the Year win, Lewis said: “Javan is a great trainer and would be an asset for Tyson Fury.

“Ben did a great job and I have nothing bad to say about him, he took Tyson from a real low point to exactly where he needed to get to.

“But you always need a great trainer and Sugar Hill, as I call him, is a good trainer, I give him very high marks.

“Every time you see a Kronk fighter, you can expect to see something special, Kronk fighters do things that no other fighters do and I know that for a fact.”

With defensive skills and flair already in abundance, punching power is the one thing Fury might be looking for Hill to add.

And the list of heavy- hitters Detroit’s Kronk gym helped create — like Thomas Hearns and   Wladimir Klitschko — suggests he is searching in the right place.

Lewis said: “There are a lot of technical things the Kronk system can help Tyson with and Sugar Hill has them.”

Fury held his final session with Davison last week in Manchester and Hill expects the former world heavyweight champ to fly out to America after Christmas to begin  preparations for his rematch with Deontay Wilder in February.

Hill said: “We’ll have seven to eight weeks together and that will be enough. I’m excited to see Tyson progress through the training camp.”
