Gennaro Gattuso ‘agrees to become Napoli manager’ with club ready to sack Carlo Ancelotti if he doesn’t beat Genk

GENNARO GATTUSO has 'agreed to take over as Napoli boss' - if the Italian club axe Carlo Ancelotti.

Napoli chiefs could plug the pull on Ancelotti's reign if the side does not beat Genk in the Champions League tomorrow (Tuesday).

The Italians would then crash out of the Champions League.

Ancelotti, 60, linked with the jobs at Arsenal and Everton, has been under pressure after a players' revolt earlier this season.

He sided with his stars after they refused a club order to attend a training retreat after their draw with RB Salzburg on November 5.

Ruthless club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has threatened to freeze players' wages and sell star names.

And now he could be about to pull the trigger on his next manager.

If Genk draw or beat them - and RB Salzburg beat Liverpool, the Italians will go out.

Former Rangers player Gattuso, 41, is waiting in the wings.

He has previously managed AC Milan, Palermo and Pisa.

De Laurentiis has had several rounds of talks with Gattuso, claims Sky Sports Italia subsidiary Gianlucadimarzio.com.

It claims he already has a general agreement for an 18-month contract.

It also says Ancelotti himself could quit even if his team qualifies tomorrow.
