Hull City star Angus MacDonald given all-clear in fight with bowel cancer

HULL defender Angus MacDonald has been given the all-clear after treatment for bowel cancer, the Championship club have confirmed.

In September, the heartbreaking announcement was made that the centre-back was suffering from the illness.

But Hull were able to provide a hugely positive update on Thursday.

A statement read: "Hull are delighted to announce the wonderful news that Angus MacDonald has been given the all-clear from bowel cancer.

"Everyone at the Club would like to express their happiness at this fantastic news.

"Angus has shown tremendous courage and strength of character during the most challenging of periods.

"We would like to wish him and his family and friends a wonderful Christmas and we all look forward to seeing Angus back in and around the Club."

The 27-year-old signed for Hull in January 2018 but missed several months of action due to a bout of deep vein thrombosis.

When finally coming back from that problem, in his calf, MacDonald described the spell out as "the toughest year of my life" with the cancer diagnosis coming soon afterwards.

Fans will hope to see him back on the pitch this campaign with the defender having fought his way back to the Championship after a spell in non-league.

MacDonald, who is dating X Factor-winning singer Alexander Burke, was released by Reading in 2013 and signed for National League side Salisbury.

Impressive form saw him join Torquay and then Barnsley, where he made 54 appearances before the switch to Humberside.
