HORNET'S STING

Sheffield United 1 Watford 1: Oliver Norwood cancels out Deulofeu opener as Hornets move off bottom

WATFORD are off the foot of the table after a hard-fought draw at high-flying Sheffield United.

Nigel Pearson's side, coming off the back of a win against Manchester United, were hoping to make it back-to-back wins for the first time this season when Gerard Deulofeu fired them ahead.

But their lead lasted just nine minutes when Oliver Norwood scored from the spot to share the spoils.

A draw leaves Watford six points adrift of safety but will fancy their chances of closing the gap with home games against Aston Villa and Wolves next up.

Watford started brightly but it was route one football that saw them break the deadlock on 27 minutes through their brightest spark Deulofeu.

A long kick from Ben Foster was flicked on by Nathaniel Chalobah and the Spaniard coolly found the bottom corner.

It was his 14th league goal since his debut almost a year ago - more than any other Hornets player.

The visitors were pegged back ten minutes before half-time when Will Hughes clumsily bundled George Baldock to the ground inside the area.

The ref showed no hesitation pointing to the spot and Norwood made no mistake by hammering it into the corner.

United dominated the second period and thought they had won it when Basham's header was cleared off the line by Mariappa.
