Social media threats were received during the week and they came to fruition as Lyon travelled to the Stade Velodrome.

After the incident, Aulas told French outlet La Provence: "Not again! We ran into an ambush!

"If it continues like this, we won't be playing."

And other reportes claimed: "Aulas was on the bus when OM fans smashed two windows with projectiles - as he got off the bus upon arrival at the stadium, he told match officials that if anything else untoward occurred, his team would refuse to play tonight."

Lyon's official account also tweeted about the incident.

The messages read: "The safety of our players and staff was not ensured during the trip to the stadium.

"After threats to the team and [Lyon manager] Rudi Garcia on social media, five marks were made on the bus en route to game.

"Windows were broken. President Jean-Michel Aulas had to warn the match officials about the risk of endangering the players, coaches and referees."

Ex-West Ham man Dimitri Payet scored twice as the home side won 2-1 to move second in Ligue 1.

Lyon sit in 14th after the defeat.
