Next Man Utd boss will be given just £50MILLION if club fail to qualify for Champions League despite mass player exodus

THE next Manchester United manager will be handed just £50million to spend if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Ralf Rangnick is currently serving as interim boss at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

But come the summer the German is set to move upstairs into a consultancy role as Man Utd look to appoint a long-term successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag have both been tipped as possible targets.

With that in mind, qualification for next season's Champions League could have a drastic impact on who the club are able to attract as their new boss.

This is because, according to The Telegraph, the summer transfer kitty will be reduced from £80m to £50m if they fail to secure entry to Europe's premier competition.

United spent £120m ahead of the 2021/22 season as they brought in Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.

Yet despite that investment, qualification for next season's Champions League remains up in the air.

Man Utd currently sit fourth in the Premier League table heading into Sunday''s games.

However, they are just two points above Arsenal having played three more games.

And Spurs are also only five points behind the Red Devils with two games in hand.

If United fail to finish in the top four then their other route to Champions League football next season is to win the competition.

They are currently in the last 16 and head into the second leg of their tie against Atletico Madrid having drawn 1-1 in Spain.

There is expected to be a mass exodus of players at Old Trafford when the season is done and dusted.

Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani are among those who look set to depart.

BETTING SPECIAL - GET CITY AT 25/1 OR UNITED AT 100/1

But this does not mean the incoming manager will be handed a transfer warchest - especially given those four are all due to leave for free.

And if Champions League football is not being played at Old Trafford, the purse strings are expected to be tightened even more.
