RUMOURS suggested that the next game in the Call of Duty franchise will be free for Xbox players, and this has been confirmed following a fumble by publisher Activision.

Microsoft’s first-party games usually launch on Xbox’s subscription service Game Pass on the day they are released.

However, there was doubt that Activision Blizzard games would follow suit, particularly as the publisher previously stated that its games would never be available on the service.

People were unclear about Call of Duty’s future until eagle-eyed fans noticed what they believed to be an error.

Both Android and iOS users who have the Xbox Game Pass app’s notifications turned on received a surprise announcement on their phones.

The message reads: “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is coming to Game Pass on day one later this year”.

It is believed that Microsoft was supposed to send out this notification around the time that the upcoming Call of Duty’s new trailer premiered.

The live-action reveal trailer is scheduled to air in a few hours, at 10am ET / 7am PT / 3pm UK today (Tuesday, May 28, 2024).

Activision officially announced that the next game would be called Black Ops 6 following leaks from a newspaper with adverts for the game.

A showcase for the game is planned on June 7, following the next Xbox Direct, but this new teaser trailer is coming even sooner.
