The attraction, which has been operating since 1979 and is publicly owned by Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District, is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year.

"We are incredibly proud of our history in Colorado and in the community,” said Yvonne Fischbach, executive director of Hyland Hills in a statement.

“It has been an honor to help so many families make unforgettable memories, and we are grateful to be recognized on the national level.”

With 70 acres of rides like wave pools, slides, and gravity-defying coasters like the Mile High Flyer, guests have a plethora of fun to choose from.

It's obvious to see why it was named second-best outdoor water park by Newsweek's Reader's Choice Awards.

The park has rides on three levels, from thrills to family-friendly to fun for the little ones.

Warp Speed takes riders through a wormhole at high speed, moving them through a training simulator as they attempt to protect themselves from "cosmic hazards."

Visitors can even practice for the ride at home with the game's virtual app.

Slides like Foothill Falls take guests on a rapid free fall, where riders can compete with others to see who makes it to the bottom first.

Family-friendly rides like Alpine Springs Express Gondola offer everyone an unbeatable view of the park as you glide through its expanse.

A lazy river offers a relaxing break from all the excitement as you float down a calm canal.

Award-winning English resort has its own waterpark, heated pools and flume rides

The park also offers a variety of on-site food and drink, including the Creekside Cafe and Bayside Barbeque for theme park classics like burgers and sandwich platters.

Coconut Point Desserts and Aokee's give those with a raging sweet tooth options like ice cream and funnel cakes.

Visitors 21 and older can drop by The Lodge to lounge around with friends for a cold beer, frozen cocktails, and snack items.

Guests can purchase the park's tube valet, which serves as a fast pass for the park's most popular rides and reduces tube carrying.

Each tube valet costs $84.99 and offers a VIP experience for up to four guests and a maximum of three rides per band for most high-demand rides, like Voyage to the Center of the Earth.

The tube valet limits guests to one ride per four guests for Revolution and Mile High Flyer.

The park explained that wait times with the add-on are typically less than the standby queue and take up to 25 minutes.

Water World opens at 10 am daily and is weather-dependent. Guests can call 303-427-7873 (SURF) to check for the park's operating status.

If the park closes for more than an hour due to unsafe weather conditions, guests are also entitled to a mid-day or full-day rain-check ticket, depending on the time of closure.
