The Young and the Restless star Meg Bennett spent final years raising money for charity before death at 75

Meg's cause of death was recently revealed after her tragic passing earlier this month

THE Young and the Restless star Meg Bennett dedicated the last few years of her life to raising money for charities before her tragic death.

The actress died on April 11 after a difficult battle with cancer.

Meg, who was 75, spent the last few years before her death raising money for the Alzheimer's Association.

The Young and the Restless star frequently shared posts about the organization on her personal Facebook page where she asked fans for donations.

Her final post, written on September 28, 2023, read, "For my birthday this year, I'm asking for donations to Alzheimer's Association.

"I've chosen this nonprofit because their mission means a lot to me, and I hope you'll consider contributing as a way to celebrate with me."

"Every little bit will help me reach my goal. I've included information about the Alzheimer's Association below.

"The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia - by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support," she closed.

In April 2023, the former model again donated to the Alzheimer's Association, and in February 2022, she contributed funds to the Entertainment Community Fund.

Over the last several years, Meg has also donated to the American Cancer Society, the Greater Good Charities, and various other organizations while also encouraging her fans to do so.

TRAGIC LOSS

According to her obituary, which was published on April 21, the Daytime Emmy winner died 10 days earlier from cancer.

“Meg lost her battle with cancer. Until nearly the end she was devotedly working with children, writing, and engaging with her far-flung family and friends," it read.

Meg was born Helen Margaret Bennet on October 4, 1948, in Los Angeles, California.

She grew up in Pasadena, where she graduated from John Muir High School.

ACTING CAREER

The actress then attended Northwestern University, where she majored in drama and was awarded the title of homecoming queen.

After graduation, Meg moved to New York City in the 1970s to pursue her career in entertainment.

Her obituary reflected on her breakout success, noting, “She got a modeling job as the ‘Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Girl,’ but her first real break was an acting and singing role in the off-Broadway musical Godspell.

“From there she went to Grease on Broadway, became a champion of the TV quiz show Three on a Match, and in 1974 began her long and successful soap opera career as the ingénue Liza on Search for Tomorrow.”

In the '80s, Meg moved back to Los Angeles where she scored her role as Julia Newman in The Young and the Restless.

Shortly after she joined the cast, the TV star began scriptwriting for the long-running and uber-successful soap opera.

FAMILY LIFE

The actress married her husband Robert Guza Jr. in 2004 while writing together on another popular soap, General Hospital.

“They would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this year,” her family shared in the obituary.

Meg is survived by Robert, as well as her brother, sister, two stepdaughters, four grandkids, and many nieces and nephews.
