ABC pulled the plug on the comedy series Forgive & Forget, starring and executively produced by Modern Family star Ty Burrell.

According to Deadline, the pilot received a thumbs up, however, the network ultimately decided against the show because it was too "dark."

Forgive & Forget's subject matter is surrounded around Alzheimer's.

The show was set to follow Hank, played by Ty, who receives an "unexpected diagnosis."

"Hank reconnects with his responsible adult son Ben in hopes of making new memories together," the outlet states.

The show was inspired by Forgive & Forget's TV writer Eugine Garcia-Cross' own experience dealing with a parent who had Alzheimer's.

Eugine hoped to "destigmatize a disease afflicting millions" using comedy.

Alongside Ty, Modern Family's co-creator, Christopher Lloyd, was hired to consult.

In addition to the show's plot, the project reportedly faced a number of challenges.

Following the pilot table read, the show had to recast the role of Ben.

Huge Disney+ comedy abruptly axed after just two series leaving fans devastated

Forgive & Forget's boot comes after ABC's parent company, Disney, pulled the plug on Amy Schumer's show Life & Beth.

Similar to the ABC show, the comedy series Life & Beth dealt with a woman confronting her past and reassessing her future following a turn of events.

Before it was canceled, the show had two successful seasons.

FAN UPROAR

Following the news about Forgive & Forget, fans rushed to social media to express their disbelief.

Many begged the network to "bring back" Ty into a different show.

"Bring Burrell back in something quality ASAP," said one fan.
