Who is Anna Delvey and why is she wearing an ankle monitor?

Anna Delvey's real name is Anna Sorokin.

She was born on January 23, 1991, in Moscow, Russia.

Her family settled in Germany and Anna moved to the US in 2013.

She gained notoriety for swindling New York’s wealthy elite out of hundreds of thousands of dollars while posing as a German heiress.

Her high-profile deception led to her 2019 conviction on multiple charges, including grand larceny and theft of services.

Anna was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison but was released early in February 2021.

Shortly after her release, she was taken into ICE custody for overstaying her visa, prompting a lengthy legal battle to avoid deportation to Germany

In October 2022, a judge allowed her to remain in the US under strict conditions, including home confinement and wearing an ankle monitor.

Despite these restrictions, she was granted permission to appear on Dancing With The Stars, where she will be competing alongside other celebrities while continuing to wear the monitor.

The device, now doubling as an unlikely fashion statement, has sparked curiosity and controversy ahead of the show's premiere.

Anna will make her debut on Dancing With The Stars season 33, which is set to premiere on September 17, 2024, on ABC.

The show will be co-hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, and Anna is one of 13 celebrities competing for the coveted Mirror Ball trophy.
