Firefighters respond to a residential fire on 8th Street Thursday, March 28, 2024, in Lafayette, La.

Lafayette firefighters responded to two fires Friday morning.

The first was a house fire in the 100 block of Acorn Drive.

At 6:56 a.m, when firefighters arrived on scene, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the garage and spread to the main home along with a metal building with three cars inside.

The home, building, and four cars sustained heavy fire damage. Firefighters battled the fire for approximately 30 minutes before getting it under control.  

No injuries were reported; the occupants of the dwelling were not home at the time of the fire, having left for work around 5 a.m. Lafayette fire investigators determined the fire originated in the garage. The cause of the fire is under investigation

Another fire occurred at 7:49 a.m. in the 100 block of Triwood Circle where a shed was fully on fire when firefighters arrived on scene.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire before it spread to the home. The shed and contents sustained heavy fire damage.

The owner noticed the shed on fire and called 911. Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Lafayette fire investigators determined the fire started in the tool shed. Investigators are examining the charging system and lithium battery as a possibly cause of the fire.

Both investigations are still ongoing.
