Cecilia’s Brent Gordon (1), shown here trying to make a tackle during this past season, has committed to the UL Ragin' Cajuns this past weekend.

New UL football commitment Brent Gordon is determined to wake up the public.

Gordon, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound senior-to-be at Cecilia High, committed to the Ragin' Cajuns while on campus Friday.

The announcement was kept under wraps until Sunday night when Gordon posted on X, "hey siri? set an alarm for everybody sleeping on me" along with a laughing emoji.

"People should know I'm a hard worker who keeps on working," he said. "I'm never satisfied. I'm always working to get better in any way possible."

Gordon led the Bulldogs to a 12-2 record and a Division II nonselect runner-up finish as a junior, intercepting five passes and leading the team in tackles.

He was named District 5-4A Defensive MVP, a Class 4A first-team all-stater and nabbed Outstanding Player honors in the Superdome Classic loss to Opelousas.

"BJ just keeps getting better," Cecilia coach Dennis Skains said. "When guys have been starting for four years, they sometimes plateau. To his credit, BJ has really stepped up his game. He's been in a zone this summer."

Gordon, who spent much of the weekend participating in UL's five-pool, 20-team 7-on-7 tournament, totaled 16 tackles (11 solo) in the 2023 title game. He also played offense, finishing the season with 550 all-purpose yards on 36 touches with six TDs.

"Anytime we compete in 7-on-7, you can tell BJ is 100% zoned in and ready to go," Skains said. "He's really been focused."

UL has a former Cecilia player, receiver Kaleb Carter, on its roster. The Cajuns, who have six commitments from Class 2025 prospects, added pledges over the weekend from Neville defensive back Cam Riley, Acadiana receiver Russell Babineaux and Mobile (Ala.) Vigor High School athlete Kevin Malone.

"Everybody is excited," Gordon said. "The whole community has my back. They're supporting my decision, and I'm liking it."

Gordon, who described his future position at UL as a safety/cornerback hybrid called "Star," is also being recruited by Arkansas State, Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana, Henderson State and Northwestern State.

"It was God's timing," he said. "I was trying to figure out where I was going to go. Another thing that made me choose UL is that the bond was already there. I know everybody. I like the scheme, which is similar to what we do here."

The Bulldogs will rely on a host of returning starters, such as Diesel Solari, Ellis Stewart, Jermaine Davis, Braylon Calais and Christian Menard, as they attempt to return to the title game.

"I think the percentage is more than 100 that we'll be in the Dome," Gordon said. "The drive we have right now is kind of crazy. A lot of stuff that is motivation is going to keep us driving and pushing hard."
