Keith Diggs, 10, works on an abstract painting — 'I'm using all the colors,' he said — at a 2018 Neighborhood Arts Project free camp that brought art to children in communities that might be under-resourced in regard to art at BREC's Brooks Park. The NAP was a cooperative venture between the LSU Museum of Art at the Shaw Center for the Arts, the office of Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broom and the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.

Neighborhood Arts

The LSU Museum of Art's free Neighborhood Arts Project, which provides free art activities at the Baton Rouge area community site, will return on June 4. The museum, in partnership with various city organizations, provides art-making lessons inspired by its current exhibits, "Cherished: The Art of Clementine Hunter" and "Fierce Planets: Work from the Studio Art Quilt Associates."

Designed to reach historically underserved areas, the program’s goal is to reach individuals who traditionally lack access to arts programming. With sites selected in collaboration with churches, community centers, BREC, and the East Baton Rouge Library System, the initiative ensures free summer activities for these communities.
