June's shaping up to be a busy month at West Baton Rouge Museum, 845 N. Jefferson Ave., Port Allen.

In addition to its exhibits, "Evolution of the Revolution," "Spaces & Places" and "Angela Gregory: Portraits and Process," the museum will host several special events, including:

  • "Brown Women & Francois Men: Unveiling the Stories of West Baton Rouge African American Families," 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 8. Gaynell Brady will share the narratives of the Brown and Francois families who lived in West Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee parishes. Brady is the founder of Our Mammy's, an organization with a mission to interpreting and preserving history. The talk is free.
  • "Behind the Barn Doors," 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Visitors can watch demonstrations of blacksmithing with Ben Deshotels, tinkering with Gary Hart, and straw hat making with Linda Collins in the campus' Big Red Barn. These sessions take place monthly and highlight the craftsmanship of historic trades and agricultural practices. Those interested in learning more skills of these crafts can sign up for future workshops. This program is also free.
  • "Children’s Drawing and Painting with Shauna Landry," 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 22. "From painting and drawing to instructing young minds how to break complex objects into foundational images, Shauna is excited to develop children’s artistic skills," a news release states. All art supplies are provided, but space is limited and advanced registration is required. To register, call the museum at (225) 336-2422.
  • "Historical Happy Hour with Kenny Acosta," 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, June 21. Catch an outdoor performance on the Juke Joint Stage by Louisiana blues legend Acosta. A Louisiana Blues Hall of Fame inductee, the singer, songwriter, guitarist, arranger and producer is known for his eclectic mix of genres including blues, New Orleans street beat, funk, rockin' blues, R&B, blue-eyed soul, classic rock and his own originals.
