Surfers with excitement to catch waves woke up before sunrise to drive to Grand isle, La.

Surfline labeled the surf conditions at the Louisiana barrier island as "Fair" with 3-4ft waves starting at 6am with waves decreasing through the day. Surfer Keegan McGuire, of Pontcha Surf Club, said the waves were closer to 2-3ft. "I use to get upset when people would hate on our waves, but now I don't take it so personally. They are pretty good sometimes," said McGuire.

About 20 surfers with different levels of experience bobbed in the murky Gulf of Mexico water on the west side of the island they call, "the Cove". Most of the surfers drove from Baton Rouge and New Orleans. McGuire described the Louisiana surf scene as, "the mellow crew," and said the group prides themselves on being welcoming. "Anyone who is willing to do that drive is welcome."
