Candidate announcements welcome

The Watchman and The Democrat are publishing candidate-prepared announcements for the Nov. 5 elections.

Announcements must include the candidate's age, political party and education. All announcements must be less than 400 words and received by July 19. A color photo of the candidate also should be sent as a high resolution jpg attachment.

The statements will be run on a space available basis.

July 4 celebration set

The Fourth of July will be celebrated with fireworks at 6 p.m. at Parker Park in St. Francisville. Live music and food trucks will be on hand. 

Vacation Bible schools announced

  • Pilgrim's Progress vacation Bible school is from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., July 8-12, at First Baptist Church of Jackson. Open for ages 4 through teenagers. Register online at fbcoj.com or call the church office at (225) 634-7148.
  • Jackson United Methodist Church will have vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon July 15-19. Children ages 4-12 are invited to "Camp Firelight."

Get a mammogram nearby

Woman’s Hospital mammography coach will offer 3D mammograms July 22 at RKM Primary Care, 11990 Jackson St., Clinton. Call (225) 683-5292 to schedule.

The coach will also be at Zachary United Methodist Church, 4205 Church St., Wednesday, July 10. Call (225) 924-8268 to schedule.

Physician’s orders are required and appointments are strongly encouraged at all sites.

Markets planned in area

  • St. Francisville Tractor Supply will hold a Community Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays, July 20, Aug. 17 and Sept. 21. If you are interested in being a vendor, call Christa Wilcox at (225) 635-2223.
  • The Jackson Market at the Town Hall Gazebo is held the first Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will also be held on the second Saturday of July and August from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Crafts, fresh goods and gifts are available. Learn about school gardens 

A school gardens training will be held at the West Feliciana LSU AgCenter Office, 10032 West Feliciana Parkway, St. Francisville, at 9 a.m., July 17. Register by July 12 at forms.office.com/r/JDaJwLVkKM. Homeschool teachers are welcome.

Meals for kids

The West Feliciana Parish and Audubon Regional library have partnered with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to bring U.S. Department of Agriculture-funded Sun Meals To-Go to the Felicianas.

Audubon Regional Library is offering Sun Meals To-Go to all children in East Feliciana and St. Helena parishes. Pick up a week’s worth of meals at your nearest library branch each Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Contact the branch to register as spots are limited. Call Clinton at (225) 683-8753, Jackson at (225) 634-7408 and Greensburg at (225) 435-7135. Clinton started this week. Jackson and Greensburg start July 2. All run through Aug. 6.

All children in West Feliciana Parish are eligible and can pick up a week's worth of meals at the West Feliciana library from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each Friday. West Feliciana families can sign up at tinyurl.com/29v9cy4m

Day camp in Clinton set

East Feliciana 4-H is holding a Summer Day Camp from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 19 at the LSU AgCenter Observatory, 13248 Gross Road. Activities will include yoga, cooking and nutrition, outdoor adventures, arts and crafts, STEM and line dancing. Enrollment is open. Cost is $50 a camper.
