Louis Smith has qualified for the District 3, Division 1 East Feliciana Parish School Board seat, he announced in a statement.
Smith, 42, received his bachelor’s degree in education from Southern University in Baton Rouge and a Master of Education degree in educational leadership from Northcentral University.
Smith was appointed July 18 to fill a vacant board slot.
"As the interim board member, I plan to work with my colleagues on the board, the superintendent of schools, the employees of the districts, community members, and students to continue a path that will garner East Feliciana Parish Schools as a premier school district of choice in Louisiana," Smith said.
Through this work, Smith said he plans to build trust, amplify transparency and hold all accountable for improvement in the district.
"Although I am not an educator anymore, I have vast experiences in the field of education, including work in Louisiana and Mississippi," he said. "I have been trained by and trained many great people who work daily to ensure that students are the number one priority for academic growth."
If elected, Smith pledged to continue to work for the children to ensure they have all the tools that are necessary to be productive parish residents.
The election is Nov. 5.
