Lillian Bridwell-Bowles
Lillian Bridwell-Bowles, known for her writing and art, not only in the Baton Rouge community but throughout the country, died Monday.
The LSU professor emerita of English taught rhetoric, writing and culture, and women's gender studies at LSU. She also was a professor of English at the University of Minnesota and authored five books on her teachings.
Bridwell-Bowles later turned her garage into an art studio, where she worked as a sculptor and potter. Her pieces drew from the history and mythology she taught for 50 years.
A gallery of her work can be found on her website, lillypotter.com.
Bridwell-Bowles also co-authored the 2017 Peitho Journal study, “Women, Work, and Success: Fin de Siecle Rhetoric at Sophie Newcomb College.”
Memorial arrangements are pending.
