Firefighters from the Special Operations Division of the St. George Fire Department trained on a submerged car in the Baton Rouge Harbor for quick rescue certification. The certification expands the capabilities of Special Operations allowing them to rapidly respond to rescue situations where citizens are submerged in automobiles. The St. George Fire Department will carry the required equipment on specific units that will be dispatched to situations that call for this type of response.

The system and the training allows the SGFD to quickly enter and search the water to enhance rescue capabilities and is not meant to replace the capabilities and duties of the East Baton Rouge dive team.
