Ruby Wax's return to TV screens last night in a new series of Hot Wax failed to make much of an impact in the ratings.

Hot Wax, aired at 10.35pm on BBC1 in a head-to-head with Big Brother, grabbed a 25% share, 3.7m viewers, but lagged behind Big Brother.

Channel 4's reality show drew a 27% share, 3.6m viewers, for the 65-minute show.

Campaign Confessions, the BBC2 documentary following political hopefuls, didn't get a look-in at 11.20pm, managing just 0.6m viewers, a 7% share.

BBC1's screening of the film, The Producers, at 11.20pm fared better, gained a 17% share, 0.9m viewers.

Channel 4 had a good night. The Real Prince Charles at 9.00pm secured 2.4m viewers, an 11& audience share, while Lawless, a documentary about prostitutes, saw the channel pulling in a 25% share with an audience of 1.3m.

ITV's Survivor improved slightly on previous ratings but still didn't manage to beat its average of 6m viewers, a 26% audience share.

The unassailable problem for ITV in that particular 9pm-10pm Monday slot has been BBC1's Waking the Dead, which has been consistently winning audience shares of around 36%.

Last night saw the final Monday episode in the series of Waking the Dead, which means Survivor may stand a chance of picking up more viewers next week.

Waking the Dead finished on a high note with a 37% share, 8.6m viewers.

With Ground Force making its return to BBC1, the battle of the DIY shows was fought at 8.30am with Carol Vorderman's Better Homes finding its staggering success kicked into touch by Charlie Dimmock's feral charms.

The ginger gardener pushed the mathematician back to a 29% share, 6.3m viewers while Ground Force pulled in 31%, 6.7m viewers.
