Dear all,
Today we are announcing that after eight years leading BBC Vision Jana Bennett is moving to a new role in BBC Worldwide. As of February she will join Worldwide as president, worldwide networks and global iPlayer. She will be responsible for 40 channels in over 100 markets and the development and rollout of the international iPlayer.
Jana has been an outstanding creative leader of the BBC and a very supportive executive colleague. Her passion for the craft of television has resulted in our channels being in the strongest shape for a decade. Reach, quality and approval are all the highest levels ever.
At her heart Jana is a programme-maker. Her understanding of what makes great television and what the audiences want has led to a sustained period of creative success.
Working with successive controllers of BBC1, she helped reinvent Saturday night entertainment with Strictly Come Dancing and Doctor Who, and brought the Apprentice to the channel. With BBC1 at its centre, she has delivered a portfolio strategy that successfully distinguished for our audiences the unique character of each service.
Jana has also led the BBC's out of London strategy, working closely with the directors of the nations and regions, and has also been a strong and vocal champion for the independent production sector.
She leaves a great team behind her. In her time she's picked some brilliant executives – they are a testament to her ability to spot talent, set direction, and allow people to do their best work.
