Comedy preview: Roseanne Barr, London

This article is more than 15 years old

Roseanne Barr, the biggest comedy star on US TV in the early 1990s, made her stand-up career out of an unglamorised portrayal of the working-class housewife, with a blend of chutzpah and cynicism that gave women in middle America a voice. After a hiatus from stand-up, she returns to the London stage this weekend, somewhat suspiciously botoxed. With her chequered personal life and fascinating upbringing, Barr has never been short of anything to talk about. Whether she's still able to say it with true resonance remains to be seen, but it's worth getting a ticket for this rare live appearance to find out.

Leicester Square Theatre, WC2, Tuesday 21, Wednesday 22
