IT'S common for banks and building societies to close on bank holidays, while others close earlier than usual.
Some shops, retailers, restaurants and businesses also shut up shop to give staff time off but others remain open.

The August bank holiday falls on Monday, August 26, 2024 this year.
We've listed which banks have confirmed that they'll be closing their doors.
Barclays
Barclays branches are closed on bank holidays, including Monday, August 26, 2024.
Opening times outside of these dates are as normal.

You can check what time your nearest bank branch is open using the branch locator tool on the Barclays website.
Bankers can usually bank online on any day or hour even if branches are closed.
If you need to get in touch with the bank when they are closed, you can use the online "chat" function on your app or call the bank on 0345 734 5345.
Be aware though that customer services may be operating reduced hours over the long weekend.

Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland
Lloyds Banking Group, which includes Bank of Scotland, Halifax and Lloyds Bank, closes its branches for the August bank holiday.
Beyond that, opening hours vary depending on the branch.

You can still bank online with any of the banks even when a branch is closed.
But there may be less availability with customer support if you need to speak to someone.
Nationwide Building Society
All Nationwide branches are closed on August 26 due to there being a bank holiday.
You can find out what time your nearest branch will open by using the Nationwide branch locator tool.
If you have an urgent inquiry when branches are closed, you can contact Nationwide Building Society by calling 0345 730 2011.
You can also message the bank on its website using the live chat service.
Santander
Santander closes all of its branches on bank holidays.
Santander has a call centre which you can reach on 0800 912 3123.
The call centre is open seven days a week from 8am to 6pm, but this may change over the bank holiday period.
You can also contact the bank through their online chat function.
HSBC
HSBC will also close all its branches on August 26.
You can find your local bank branch by using the branch finder tool on the HSBC website.
Contact centres are usually open 8am to 8pm every day and customers can find the telephone number on the back of their card.
Natwest
Natwest haven't confirmed if all their branches will close on August 26, bank holiday.
This suggests that there maybe some services available in limited branches across the UK with an earlier closing time than usual.
The Natwest website advises the following:
"Our branches may close on bank holidays.
