A HUGE car manufacturer has slashed EV production as demand for electric models falls.
The industry giant are pausing the production lines at two of their major EV factories as fewer drivers than expected snapped up the models.
VW has announced that EV production at their factory in Zwickau, Germany will be put on hold until October 16.
Likewise the assembly line for the ID.3 model in Dresden will shut down for the first two weeks of the month.
Cratering demand on the continent and the scrapping of major government subsidies to incentivise the building of EVs are understood to be at the root of the decision.
German ministers recently cut grants to encourage companies to add EVs to their corporate fleets.

Since then orders for company cars, which made up 70% of the EV orders at Zwickau, have fallen rapidly.
The company is in talks with unions over how to resume operations at the factory going forward.
The Dresden plant is expected to return to its normal schedule from the middle of October.
VW's EVs have come in for some criticism from owners too.

One motorist said he hated his rented ID.3, claiming he found something wrong before he even got inside.
And a second took to TikTok to list the five worst functions on their motor, from annoying buttons to the hefty price.
The ID.3 hatchback currently retails from £36,385 for its basic spec.
VW has been contacted for comment.
It comes after another EV owner slammed all electric cars as a rip-off and urged other drivers not to get one.
