Beast Harkins described as a 'master manipulator' by top cop

A COP who helped snare Tinder rapist Christopher Harkins has labelled him a “monster” — as it has emerged he plans to appeal his conviction.

Detective Inspector Iain Renfrew blasted the fiend, who was caged last month for 12 years.

Harkins, 37, was found guilty of rape and sex assault, having admitted conning ex-partners out of £210,000.

The brute, from Newlands, Glasgow, intends to dispute his sex offences conviction and the length of his prison term.

But Det Insp Renfrew, from Police Scotland’s Domestic Abuse taskforce, said: “He is a monster, a master manipulator and, let’s not forget, a violent sex offender.

"All the women were transactions to Harkins, nothing more.

"He wasn’t looking for love, he was just looking for money.”

The dad of two preyed on ten females from 2013 to 2019 after meeting them on dating apps.

He raped one at his flat in Cumbernauld, attacked two others and filmed two women in intimate situations without their consent before sending them the graphic content.

His crimes also took place in the Airdrie, Dumbarton, East Kilbride, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Paisley and Stirling areas.

Harkins had admitted nine fraud raps totalling £214,011 but was then convicted of sex offences and assault after a trial at the High Court in Paisley.

Det Insp Renfrew added: “The courage of the women who came forward and put their trust in us is the reason he’s now in jail.

“He used sexual images as a powerful method of control.

"We hope the 12 years he got will give them all closure.”

The Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service said: “We can confirm an intimation of intention to appeal against both conviction and sentence has been lodged.”
