Following the attack on October 3 last year she posted a selfie of her bruised face from hospital and said she was “sickened to her stomach”, describing her assailant as a “monster”.

Victim Chloe, 21, sobbed in the public gallery during sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court.

The court heard that she had not wanted him to be sent back to prison, where he has spent four months on remand.

Judge Brian Cummings, QC, told Zeisz: “There are very sinister and serious aspects in this case.”

He said that Miss Baker, who suffered severe facial bruising in the attack, partly held herself responsible and did not want him punished further.

But he told him: “The public have the right to expect serious offences will be dealt with seriously.”

Frank Dillon, prosecuting, said that the couple had been in a volatile relationship for about two years but it had become on-off.

After bumping into Zeisz on a night out with her friend Toni Shumacher he grabbed her around the waist and then by the head and hair, said Mr Dillon.

He threatened to “knife the pair” of them and when Miss Schumacher bravely tried help her friend Zeisz punched her in the face and then grabbed hold of a taxi driver’s lip and gums.

A car, apparently summoned by Zeisz, containing two men then turned up and although Miss Baker was shouting that she did want to go she “reluctantly” got into it and was driven off.

During a 15 minute journey Zeisz repeatedly punched her to the face and bit her on the hand, said Mr Dillon.

William Beardmore, defending, said that Zeisz, who has no previous convictions, had been immature at the time but has since matured while in custody.

He said: “He has taken steps to address his misuse of alcohol and does not intend to use illicit substances on his release.”

During the X-Factor Chloe, spoke of how she was overwhelmed by the thought of auditioning in front of Simon Cowell and the other judges.

She was given a seat in the Six Chair Challenge by singer Rita Ora, but was later told to give up her place to 17-year-old student Louisa Johnson.

Judge Cummings sentenced Zeisz, of Liverpool, to a total of 16 months imprisonment after he admitted assaulting Miss Baker causing actual bodily harm and common assault on her friend Toni Schumacher and taxi driver Andy Gill.

He did not impose a restraining order to keep away from Miss Baker, who the court heard is still fond of Zeisz and has written to him in prison and sent him a Valentine card.

Zeiss, who had taken both alcohol and cocaine that night, had denied kidnapping her and that charge was dropped.
