According to the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden: “I hear that, a couple of days after he married Meghan Markle, four young troopers were busy brushing down and washing their horses in the stables at Windsor when they suddenly felt someone was watching them.”

When they turned around, they had been amazed to see the Queen standing there, he claimed.

He continued: “She told them ‘I am most happy with my boys on the wedding day. You kept the horses at the right distance from the carriage, and there were no accidents or problems with the horses’.”

To show her appreciation, Her Majesty had a very special, extravagant gift for them in 2018.

She allegedly said: “In fact, I’m so pleased with the way you handled the horses that, out of my own purse, I am sending all four of you on holiday to Canada. To stay with the Canadian Mounties.”

The staff members were said to be “thrilled” and had a “wonderful, unexpected break from duties.”

Meghan and Harry were driven in a horse-drawn carriage during their royal wedding which had been pulled by four horses that they had personally selected.

A further two horses were outriders during the wedding procession.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also received a very lavish gift from the Queen in celebration of their nuptials.

The Queen gave them the keys to Frogmore Cottage, and they moved into the property after it had been extensively renovated in April 2019.

Frogmore Cottage is located in the Frogmore Estate which has 33 acres of private gardens within the Home Park, adjoining Windsor Castle in Berkshire.

It was in the grounds of Windsor Castle that Harry and Meghan got married on May 19, 2018, at St George's Chapel.

A reception then followed on Frogmore House's grounds.

The renovations required were reported to have included new heating, wiring and utilities meaning the property had a "substantial overhaul".

The cottage's refurbishment cost the taxpayer a huge £2.4 million and was completed in April 2019.

Harry and Meghan agreed to pay back the money for the refurbishment when they moved to the United States and gave up their royal titles.

MEGXIT TERMS

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced on January 8, 2020, they would be stepping down as 'senior' members of the Royal Family.

On January 18 it was announced that the Sussexes would “no longer be working members of Britain’s Royal Family”, and would not use their “Royal Highness” titles.

A Palace spokeswoman said the couple would no longer receive public money and that they would repay the £2.4million cost of refurbishing their cottage — Frogmore — in Windsor, Berks.

The following day, Harry said in a heartfelt speech: “Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the Commonwealth, and my military associations without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible.”

The Duke of Sussex said he had found the “love and happiness I had hoped for all my life” with Meghan.

It was reported in 2020 that they paid back the money after securing their £112 million Netflix series 'Harry & Meghan'.

On February 28, 2023, it was exclusively revealed by The Sun that Harry and Meghan were evicted from Frogmore Cottage by King Charles.

Their eviction came following the release of Prince Harry's memoir Spare.

The memoir was a chance for Harry to tell his story following the events of Megxit.

They included describing his “arch-nemesis” brother William knocking him to the ground in a row over Meghan.
