Tripp suitcase review: I tested the Holiday luggage for holidays
TRIPP is one of thebest suitcase brands in the UK, and the best part is they're budget-friendly so you've more money towards your holiday.
I put their four-wheel hard shell Holiday suitcase style to the test to see exactly why it’s a bestseller for the brand. However, Tripp has upgraded the Tripp 6 to the 7; they're essentially still the same but with more colour choices and now have four dual wheels.
The Tripp Holiday suitcase collection comes in three different sizes - cabin, medium and large - and six different colours, which means you know you’ll be able to find something that suits you.
Made from lightweight polypropylene, it will protect your belongings whether you’re travelling short or long haul without helping you to go over your weight allowance.
Thanks to the integrated TSA lock, you know your stuff will be secure as well.
And, for peace of mind, it comes with a five-year guarantee as standard.
I tested the style in a large, which is ideal for family holidays where you’re all sharing a case, or for long-haul breaks where you need to bring a bit more along.

Tripp Holiday suitcase review: design
Tripp says its Holiday style is a 'worldwide exclusive design'.
It means you won’t find another brand making anything similar; this should come in handy at the luggage belt when you’re trying to track down your case.
What makes the design so distinctive is the instantly recognisable pattern on the front - squares with rounded corners arranged in a four-by-six pattern - which is the same regardless of the size and colour of the case.
And because the pattern is textured, it’s easy to spot from afar.

Tripp Holiday suitcase: Key features and specifications
There are three luggage sizes in the Tripp Holiday 6 range.
- Large: measures 76 x 50 x 32cm, has a 102L capacity, and weighs 3.9kg.
- Medium: measures 66 x 45 x 26cm, has a 66L capacity, and weighs 3.2kg
- Cabin: measures 55 x 40 x 20cm, has a 37L capacity, and weighs 2.7kg. This size is suitable as carry-on luggage for British Airways (and most international airlines), EasyJet Up Front and Ryanair Priority.
Each of these three sizes are available in six different colours: Black, Flamingo (pink), Ocean (blue), Slate (grey), Watermelon (red) and Banana (yellow).
They all have the same key design features. These include:
- Four-wheel design: so you can move the case in any direction with ease.
- Retractable handle: this extends from the top to two different lengths.
- Grab handles: you have short handles on the top and the side to help you lift and carry the case.
- TSA lock: the integrated three-number combination lock is designed to keep your stuff secure while still allowing airport security to check your luggage if required.
- Lightweight frame: made from 100% polypropylene, the case is light but durable.
- Two compartments: one has a zippable mesh cover and the other has compression straps that clip together in the middle to form an X.
Tripp Holiday suitcase: Usage
I tested the large version of the Tripp Holiday 6.
Compared to other large suitcases, this one is pretty much in the middle in terms of size and capacity, but it’s definitely one of the lightest options around.
This means that if you tend to overpack, this case won’t add much to your total luggage weight, so you can take more of the things you really need.
The downside of the case being so light is that the plastic shell feels quite flimsy - you can easily bend it while packing or even when moving it around.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; a bit of give in the shell actually means the case is less likely to be damaged when it bumps into things or is thrown around by baggage handlers.
However, your suitcase will need to be fairly full at all times, as otherwise it can warp. And because of this, we’d recommend you pick the size carefully to suit your needs.
Tripp offers a five-year guarantee on the luggage, so you should get some decent use out of it.
Another benefit of this flexibility in the shell is that you could potentially squeeze in a couple of small souvenirs on return even if your case was packed on the way out - it’s just as well because the case itself isn’t expandable.
The two things that I struggled with were the retractable handle and the wheels.
The retractable handle can be a bit stiff to extend and retract, and it doesn’t come out as far as other suitcases we’ve tried in the past.
As for the wheels, they are perfectly adequate on smooth floors but when you get it out on the carpet or on bumpy pavement, it does occasionally struggle.
That said, at this size, you hopefully won’t have to drag it too far.
Tripp Holiday suitcase: final verdict
I think the Tripp Holiday collection offers pretty decent value for money.
It’s not going to last you forever, but if you don’t travel frequently, you should get a few years’ use out of it.
And while it’s not the cheapest option around, it has a lot of features that you would usually find on premium suitcases without the associated price tag.
It looks stylish too, and unless everyone else buys a Tripp suitcase after reading this, they’re pretty easy to spot at an airport.
The best feature for us, though, is that it’s so lightweight - on premium brands, you would expect to pay a lot more for this, so snap up a bargain while you can.
