ON FIRE

Ex-WWE star Kota Ibushi sets HIMSELF on fire as he waves a firework while standing on roof of opponent’s Ford Focus… parked in east London

World-famous Japanese wrestler lights up the streets of Bethnal Green during incredible XWA show

LONDON came alive this weekend as wrestler Kota Ibushi lit up the East End’s streets by grappling on CARS and SETTING HIMSELF ALIGHT with a firework.

The scenes took place during his match at a thrilling show promoted by XWA in Bethnal Green.

Former WWE star Ibushi lit up, literally, the intimate Resistance Gallery in Bethnal Green in a bout that took place in and out of the ring.

Ibushi and his tag partner Gota Ihashi took to the capital’s pavements against Jimmy Havoc and Cara Noir, and they caused havoc as they tussled over cars and walls.

Not only was Havoc chokeslammed by his rival onto the roof of a car, Ibushi later followed up a pyrotechnic display with two daredevil moonsaults – one off the vehicle and the other off an indoor balcony.

Ibushi  told the Metro after his bout: “So many things happened on the way to the venue.

“It was very unusual. I had to help push our car because there was a puncture on the tyre! But I really enjoyed the journey.

“This was the first time I had wrestled in England, and I was wondering if my style would work over here after all my experiences in Japan. But it was very positive.”

Ibushi became recognisable around the world after competing in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic last year, and he said that tournament inspired him to come to Britain.

“When I wrestled for WWE I saw some British wrestlers and they amazed me. I’m a big fan of Zack Sabre Jr in particular. Maybe one day there will be an opportunity for me to wrestle British wrestlers in WWE, but I’d also love to wrestle the likes of Zack and Will Ospreay in Japan.”

Another man Ibushi has in his sights is his former tag-team partner Kenny Omega, and he believes they pair would produce an epic encounter.

Ibushi said: “I would like to team with him again, but I would like to wrestle him again too. I know I must face him again.

“If it happens, it would possibly be the best match in the world.”
