Are Fortnite servers down?

At around 8:00am GMT (3:00am ET), reports of users being unable to access the game spiked.

According to Epic Games' server status site, downtime has been scheduled to take place between 8:00am GMT (3:00am ET) and !2:00pm GMT (7:00am ET).

This leaves Fortnite logins, matchmaking and other game services out of action for the time being.

As usual, gamers have flocked to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to check whether the Fortnite outage is a wider issue - and voice their woes.

"Fortnite servers are down my life is over," one user joked.

Another tweeted: "Fortnite serves are down I need help I have nothing left to do."

Why is Fortnite down?

The last time Fortnite went down was to make way for the latest big update: Chapter 5, Season 2, which landed on consoles in early March.

Fortnite often stops operating when creators are introducing new features.

And this latest outage is no different.

The v29.10 - or Mechanical Mayhem - update is for Lego Fortnite players.

It will bring in vehicles like the Speeder, Offroader and Hauler to make getting around easier.

Fortnite has more details on this update here.

The game undergoes a big Season update roughly every 10 weeks, with smaller updates popping up in the meantime.

Gamers are well rehearsed in downing the controllers for four to six hours at a time - with the promise of rewards after.

Each Seasons introduces new themes, weapons, map locations and more lore into the game's storyline.
