In fact, we've spotted city breaks costing from just £141pp as they include savings up to 30 per cent off.

The major advantage of city breaks is that most holiday companies offer them as short holidays lasting between two and four nights since the flights are relatively short.

Most European cities also offer an array of summertime activities, festivals, and outdoor attractions that are not available in other seasons.

One thing to consider is the weather, as some locations can reach highs over 35C.

However, if the heat doesn't bother you, August is a good time to explore, as most tourists and locals will opt for a holiday by the beach.

This means you should find less crowded attractions and a more laid-back atmosphere.

To make it even better, a Post Office Travel Money study revealed that prices are down in 60 per cent of cities due to the strength of the sterling and the fall in accommodation costs.

The best deals we've found come from British Airways, loveholidays, TUI and Jet2.

Prague is the cheapest destination to visit over a couple of days, as we've spotted two-night stays costing from just £141pp, including your flights.

The deal includes your stay at the four-star Hotel U Divadla, departing on August 19.
